The commemoration

Throughout time and in every human society, death has been surrounded by ceremony. In fact, funerals contribute greatly to the mourning process: facing the reality of the death, publicly expressing sadness and separating little by little from the person who has died and celebrating their memory. Whether one is religious or not, bringing together loved ones and sharing memories are a great help in transcending the immense emptiness left by the disappearance of a loved one.

Society changes, and customs evolve; even the manner we commemorate the dead has changed over the past 20 years. Today, there is an alternative to holding funerals at a church. You may have a viewing and service in the same place. Depending on your beliefs, at the funeral home you may have a prayer meeting, or simply a commemorative service attended by the deceased’s loved ones. You may want to have musicians playing, to project photos of the person’s life on a screen, to invite family and friends to tell stories about him or her, or to create a décor that reminds you of the departed… At Memoria, we will listen to your wishes and are open to any of your ideas to commemorate your loved one, as long as they are carried out respectfully and with dignity.
