When you decide to prepare for your funerals, you have to take different steps. Here is a reminder detailing the steps to find your way around.
1- List your choices
The first decision that will guide the rest of the process is that of cremation or coffining. After this first step, you can determine if you prefer:
- An exhibition of the coffin
- A commemoration in the living room in the presence of the ashes
- A ritual of scattering ashes in the garden
- A botanical urn to plant on private land
- The type of celebrant desired adapted to the chosen ritual
- The desired music
- Any other desired customization
It will then be possible to select a final disposal location for the coffin or urn, or if preferred, that of the scattering of the ashes.
Cemetery:
When you have a family lot, you will need to check with the cemetery in question if there is still room for us. Similarly, if the lot does not belong to you, you will need to verify which member of the family is mandated to be responsible for the family lot, then check with him to have his authorization.
When you make a decision, make sure to do it for yourself, but also for those who remain.
When you have a good idea of what you want for yourself, then it's time to discuss it with your loved ones. Despite your own discomfort and their reluctance, this can give rise to beautiful exchanges, help them accept the decisions made, ensuring that these will be respected, without unnecessary tension.
2- Set a budget
In order to better decide between your choices and make an informed decision, you must first establish a budget with which you will be comfortable. For example, at Memoria, it ispossible to pay the fees in a single payment or to defer the payments on a monthly basis, at no additional cost.
Once the budget has been established, you can plan services adapted to the intentions previously determined, with peace of mind.
3- Find the right funeral home
Shop for a funeral home based on the desired services. It is important that it corresponds to your beliefs, your values and your budget, while ensuring the following points:
- Does it hold a valid funeral director's license?
- Is it a recognized funeral home and has been established for a long time ? This certifies a quality professional service.
- Does the funeral home has the necessary infrastructure and technology to guarantee the desired services, in your image (types of ceremonies and rituals offered, places of rest, support services for your loved ones)?
4- Meet with an advisor
You will then be ready to meet with an advisor in person, ideally accompanied by someone impartial, in order to gather their impressions and get an idea of the hospitality of the place and the staff. This is a good indication of what will happen next and how your loved ones will be welcomed.
Choose the main services, but allow your loved ones to decide of the rest.
5- Organize your documents
After signing the prearrangement contract, you will receive by mail:
- Laminated cards showing your contract number and the coordinates of the funeral home. They are to be given to the persons to be contacted when the time comes, those whom you have previously designated.
- A letter confirming the money deposit in trust
Other important information to record in the same place:
- Location of bank accounts and investments
- Insurance policies
- Contact details of your accountant, your lawyer, the notary in charge of the will, etc.
- The inventory of your possessions
Recording all these documents together will facilitate the task of the liquidator after the death.
